Paul Markham has a serious mental problem bordering on illness. Isolated in a foreign country where he has failed to learn the language he has become mentally ill.
Through desperation he tries to find recognition as an authority to make sense of his life by being an "expert" on everything and decrying everyone else.
He needs professional medical help.
