If you decide on particular breed you might look to see if there is a rescue for that breed in your area. Not too long ago a friend of mine got a Pit Bull from a rescue. She is the sweetest dog in the world and their family is so happy with her.

If their WERE a Boston Terrier Breeder nearby, I'd go and choose one next week...
If there WERE a Rescue Center nearby, (With A Boston Terrier) I'd go TODAY...
But as for mutts, I did rescue a HUGE (MUTT) LAB (Called "Nobby" - I Shit you not) in about 1992...
Dog was utterly crazy, kept running away, and when I took it for a walk on the beach, it would slip its leash, and run off...
If you can visualise me running along a beach, yelling "Nobby ! Nobby!" infront of families with small children etc, you can understand why he had to be returned
