Probably because the food is way healthier than here.
And at the majority of places (i think its common there) they serve meals on plates in the middle and give you an empty plate. Share meals with the company you're with, a good system because it gives variety. A couple was sitting at a table and the plates of food kept coming! About 5 plates full of food and the 2 of them ate everything.
And the taste, damn I've eaten the best stuff i ever had in china. Ofcourse some meals were bad but maybe 2 or 3 out of 30 something. Not a bad score

I think we were in different towns..lol
Although when i was in Shanghai we went to a restaurant, and yeah the food just kept on coming. However im talking about the regular meals you get when you are in a hurry.
Once i got used to the food i ate where the chinese ate. It was a series of small restaurants, you just buy a little from each one. Very cool.
my favourite was a noodle, they call hot dry noodle...or sesame dry noodles.
As well as bbq chicken, they dust with some hot sauce. I could eat that each day.
