If i recall its liberum or something in Latin for the term: free
Only 2 languages i know use gratis as the term free in common. Dutch and Afrikaans because Afrikaans is based on old dutch. The German word for free is kostenlos, the French one is gratuit and the spanish word is libre i believe. But enough about translations it's certainly a nice domain name regarding who uses the word gratis.
