I've had a shitty Logitech 5.1 setup on my TV for years because it was sufficient, and recently borrowed a pair of Mackie 624's, which I hooked up to my 5.1 system since they're powered speakers.. What a difference.
But they're not meant for home theatre at all, they're very directional and meant for close listening, plus they're monitors meant for reference.
So I got the itch, did a search and someone had just put up a great set of old speakers for sale about an hour away, so I drove over and picked up the pair.
They're Paradigm 11se MK3's. Canadian made, top of the line in the late 90's for this line, and were only $400 in perfect condition.
My buddy sold me his Harman Kardon AV230 for $50 and I'm a cable away from enjoying my new speakers. Eventually I'll try to find the matching center and add rears.
I live in a building so can't really have a good subwoofer, but these speakers should have plenty of bass anyway.
My buddy thought the same with his system, until he grabbed a $1,500 SVS sub, and his place fucking shakes now.. It's ridiculous.
