There's still revenue in bdsm/fetish niches - but even that is slowly dying off.
I've lost count how many bdsm colleagues we've known over the years have vanished from the scene. I estimate at least half of those we met/knew at the first BondCon back in 2001 in Queens, NY - have moved on to greener pastures.
As you say - I quite agree the industry is missing that intangible 'darkness'. Much of it now is slick, formulated, re-packaged sludge.
