I think you might be confusing a few things here.
The US announced that the "Syrian opposition coalition" is now the legitimate representative of the people of Syria. HOWEVER, with that said, the US considers one of the groups in the coalition to be a terrorist group with ties to Al Qaida. The United States does not consider Al-Nusra to the legitimate representative, but they are one of the groups that make up the coalition.
The coalition is a group of people with common interests. You cannot be "denied" membership. Anyone who shows up takes part.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't been paying too much attention to what's been going on in Syria.
