At least we have started to erode the ability of teachers to collectively bargain in the hope of cutting their pay and doing away with their benefits. Why would we want to pay a bunch of 'part timers' as if they were important to society. It's not like good teachers would create fewer crazy gun maniacs, or like quality teachers are out looking for better jobs since we devalued the teaching profession through shortsighted knee-jerk budget stupidity and a dislike of labor unions.

Lost in the unspeakable horror of this disaster is the fact that teachers actually do matter for the long term health and stability of communities... and their pay hardly compensates the good ones for the vital job that they do every day.
