I don't see any options for schools. I just don't.

Guards: You put a guard on the front door, but that's not going to change anything. Anyone with intentions of attacking the school will know about the guard, and he will be the first target. The guy in CT just killed 26 people; If the school had a guard the guard would have been the first killed.

Metal Detectors: Worthless. Kids have intimate of the schools and will be able to sneak anything in, and even parents are well aware of the alarm systems and security systems.

Fences: Worthless. My kid's school has a huge fence around it. Great. But I know where the openings are and when they are open - for example, the track is not protected by this fence and when the kids in PE go out the track everything in the back of the school is wide open. If not, I could just pull my truck up to this fence, hop on top of the truck, and over the fence. On top of this, in the even of an attack it will only prevent kids from leaving the school.

Short of locking down the school completely and having multiple armed guards, I don't see many options. Schools can barely afford teachers so I doubt any of them would be able or willing to hire armed guards. Even then, what to do you get as an "armed guard" - a sixty year old retired man working part time? That's not going to stop anyone.

But then schools are only a part of the problem. We need to protect schools, government offices, malls, theatres, private businesses.

Fucking insane.
