What a great comment at that link :

Let's consider this, Mr. Lapierre: If 25 or 30 children were killed at a Chucky Cheese party or at a McDonald's team party, would you be as insultingly brain-dead to urge posting armed police at every national location (as you did with schools)?
What a red-herring sound bite to obscure the real problem: crazies with Automatic weapons with pocketfuls of big clips.
You can verbally bob and weave, but you can't hide from that fact.
Why not ask the NRA membership to take a stand AGAINST the sale of the Automatic weapons? (These are a universe away from the single shot muskets that the framers of the Constitution had in mind.)

When you buy a gun in the US, do they have to be registered?
If so, then a gun amnesty / buy back is not impossible at all.
In Australia, gun owners are required to have a safe and the police swing by randomly to check where your guns are kept - they make sure they are in a secure location.
Along with all guns being registered / gun amnesty / buy back etc all happened with no big problem. However there isn't much of a gun culture over here.
