There is an old saying. When you owe the bank a million dollars, the bank owns you. When you owe the bank 100 million dollars, you own the bank.
China would be in serious trouble if the US defaulted on all of the paper that China is holding... or if the US economy collapsed and stopped buying Chinese products.
