But I also think the idea of having a trained security pro at every school is a good idea. But it has to be a "pro". My wife is a 1st grade teacher, and she told me about the security her school posted -- some schlubby, awkward 50 year old guy with no firearm.
If we're going to do this, there needs to be a program dedicated to it, and the people who come out of it are prepared as they can be for a situation. But anyway, they'll never need to use their guns because the maniacs who shoot up a school are cowards. The last thing they want is a firefight and they'll be deterred by an armed presence.
But telling gun control advocates to shut the fuck up is kind of ironic, since the gun nuts are the ones making all the noise on this board. Lots of noise that's hard to avoid.

I'm calling for them to shut it the fuck up before they cause any more innocent deaths. I'm passionate about this and gave up on trying to explain it to normal people, for a long time. I just needed to vent a little, I suppose. I know it's a futile attempt, I suppose.
You're absolutely right- the only reason these dickless bastards go in and do these things is because they know with 100% certainty that they'll have full control and that no one will be there to stop them.
I actually think an armed guard is a little less effective than having armed faculty. Thinking about it- if there is an armed guard in full garb standing there, you know who you have to get out of the way.
Knowing one or more of your teachers or faculty members *may* be armed and not knowing for sure *who that could be* would be a far better deterrent.
Requiring anyone who wants to carry within 1000ft of a school is an excellent idea. Requiring everyone on school property to be defenseless is outright lunacy. You can't require the threat (the gunman) to do or not do SHIT.
