No one says teachers should be required to arm themselves. Half of me wants to argue that the teachers DO have a duty to protect their students. That written, I still would never get behind requiring anyone who doesn't want to arm themselves to do so.
Those who WANT to arm themselves and who believe they could be effective in a situation should be allowed to do so. In order to do so on school grounds, I'd go along with requiring them to have some solid training, but again- this is about the innocents having any chance whatever being better than N O N E.

i'm not saying there aren't a small percentage of teachers who could handle a gun and bad situation. But the qualities that would make a person a good teacher would also make them the least likely to be good in a firefight. I'm only saying this because being married to a teacher puts me around a lot of teachers socially. I know them pretty well and it's laughable to think of any of them shooting at someone.
