I dont know, New York has strange gun laws.
I grew up in Texas and now spend almost all of my time in Nevada and Texas, and both states are very "gun friendly" meaning that the guns laws arent very restrictive on your rights to own guns, as long as you are legally allowed to do so.
When I lived in New York in the early 90's, the only firearm I had was a semi-automatic shotgun that I used for skeet shooting and hunting Canadian geese, and when using it for hunting I had to have a plug in the magazine, restricting its capacity to only three rounds.
