Welcome to the results of the new PC, narcissistic world we've created for ourselves where everyone has the right to be themselves without being judged. 20 years ago, everyone would say "hey, get your fucking shit together, your kid is insane... get him help and keep him the fuck away from me". Today, .... well... can't judge. Can't call it like it is. Can't demand better of people. Can't blame anyone. Hence, the growing problem of insane people doing insane shit.
