By far the coolest hotel in New York, and a well kept secret, is the Helmsley Windsor right below central park.
You can get a whole fucking suite for like $150, less than the pussy sized rooms for $200 across the street.
Reason is, its kind of faded. Not updated recently (maybe 40 years!), no restuarant, etc.
Much nicer than some chic new place in my opinion... I stay there every trip to NYC.
