Dumbass thing to do. That's just how you get bitten! Cold water, shooting the fighting dogs with a fire extinguiser, use of a marine type air horn, all of these are common practices among dog handlers dealing with fighting dogs.
Beating one or the other of the dogs does not work out well as this incident clearly shows.
