Quite the opposite, google has already stated a couple of years ago that it plays a very very small factor 1.5-2%, not enough of a factor to make a difference, and now after the Panda updates, that number is further reduced so it's barely even a factor. But the way people believe the myth, they think it helps them by 10-30%. That's the myth
