There are all sorts of laws and regulations protecting me with my bank though. But I will tell you this much. All I had to show them was my driver's license. They took a photocopy of it. I didn't have to have a picture taken of me holding it. I didn't have to sign things in blue ink and when my ID expires they don't put a hold on my account and make me bring in another ID or go through verification again. They use COMMON SENSE as they know I am still the same person I verified myself to be the year before.

Now, Paypal? No I did not give them a single ID. I gave them my social security number and verified a credit card and a bank account. I think only one of the last two was required but not both. By verify I don't mean that I had to scan the front and back of it and this other bullshit. They deposited a couple cents and then had me answer as to the amount of the deposit. Very easy and much more secure....for me.
