My Dad found a 10 lbs mangetic black rock
My Dad spent his whole life in the heavy construction business. Many years ago he found a rock, about 10 lbs, black and heavy. Having seen a million rocks in his career this one stood out, so he took it and stuck it in the garage for years. Recently he was cleaning his garage out and he found the rock, and he did some digging. He thinks it's a meteorite. So I looked up line about how to tell if it is one or not and we did some tests. We hung a magnet from a string and it pulled towards the rock. Then we did the ceramic scratch test, and there was no black or red lines with the scratch test. Finally we cut a tiny piece of it open with a grinder and although we're no experts, it looked like the pictures and descriptions said online of what a meteorite should look like on the inside. The black crust even had some very tiny stress break lines in them, thinner than paper. Now here's the weird part. He feels and is starting to look younger and so is my Mom. They're pushing 80 and acting like their in their 50's now. And if that isn't weird, their old dog who has arthritis is acting more like a young dog now. He has the rock in his living room now, bragging about it to everyone. And if that isn't weird, he claims he hears voices at night now coming from the living room. Weird voices, not English. He or my mom don't speak any other languages so why don't know what this is, but they both swear they hear these weird very quiet voices late at night coming from the area of the house the rock is in. They've both said they refuse to go into the living room when they hear these noises. Regardless, he loves talking about the rock and showing it off to anyone and everyone he knows and is growing very attached to it.
I'm not sure what to tell him, he's getting a ton of joy out of owning this rock and bragging about it, but if it's worth a pile of cash should he just sell it?
Please help, should he sell this 10lbs rock I think is a meteorite or keep it? It might be worth a little chunk of money if it does turn out to be a real meteorite, 10lbs ones are rare and often sell for 2-3X their weight in gold.
advise?
