It's extremely good for multi-monitor setups. Each monitor can have its own independent taskbar and each monitor can be treated as individual monitors or a single large extended screen.
The native independent taskbars significantly improve productivity in a dual, triple or quadruple monitor setup, as we have here.
"Metro" is basically the new Start Menu. And just like Windows 7, and Windows Vista, and even Windows XP, you can toggle the "Start Menu" on or off with the Windows Key on the keyboard. It's really not that hard to click a single keyboard button and show the start menu or the desktop.
We have no problems with either Windows 7 or Windows 8 here. If anything, especially due to our multi-monitor setups, Windows 8 has very much improved productivity.
