Always hilarious when balloonheads (who probably don't know a single other thing about Niemoller) mindlessly paste this apocryphal quote, attempting to make some 'profound' point.
Niemoller didn't speak out because he was a hardcore Nazi religious nut who ardently supported fascist militias (and the murder of their opponents) in the 20s, actively helped and supported Hitler's rise to power in the 30s, and only started to get upset when Hitler started to interfere in Church-related issues. He was such a Nazi that even
after his arrest and imprisonment he begged to join the Navy so he could kill even more opponents of Hitler.
