question about customizing a wordpress

hey y'all,

I've been wrestling with my wordpress and I'm hoping to get a bit of advice before deciding how to proceed...

my issue is I love my current wordpress theme (Dusk to Dawn) except for two features. The first is the white page/post page background that I can't seem to change with plugins (I've tried two) and the size of the font (too small in <p>)

I've looked through the wordpress support forums and it appears that people can change css themselves but I'm terrified to do it myself because I don't fully understand how to read/write css.

I'm a firm believer in paying people to do things I can't do myself but my question to those of you who work with wordpress is this: is it a huge job to alter the css to change the color of page backgrounds and font sizes or should I just try to find a new theme? I've scoured wordpress themes but I can't find anything simlilar to my current theme that offers the extra features I'm looking for so I'm really hoping that what I seek isn't unrealistic.

I'm not sure if I'm setting myself up for a huge headache in trying to alter my existing theme, or if it's a simple task that anyone who understands css could perform.

tl;dr Basically, I want the entire white background of each page to be a color of my choosing, with no white borders (I'm using a plugin for page/post background but I can't seem to make the whole page one color, I keep ending up with ugly white borders) and I want the font size of <p> to be larger. Is this easy to change or should I just try to find a theme similar to my current theme that offers these features?

the site I'm referring to is here: http://quinn69.com

thanks in advance for any perspective y'all can provide. I understand this isn't the wordpress support forum, I'm just trying to find out if what I want to do is realistic or more trouble than it's worth.
