Generally speaking, i would agree with this. However, tumblr began mass purges as far back as 08. I got over 10,000 blogs deleted. I knew people that had 20-50,000 deleted. My point is that its not a new thing for them and they also realized around 2009 or so that purging porn and the auto created blogs was also crushing their revenues.
Build smart. Build big. Be consistent. Expect to lose it all.
