Yes. I run it on a spare PC. It downloads some stuff, runs some calculations for a few hours or days at a time sometimes, uploads its findings back and downloads the next batch to be processed.
You can let it run in foreground, background, or as a screen saver which is what I do. This way it doesn't use up resources when you need your machine for something and makes for an interesting and very active screen saver.

Why waste cpu cycles on that when it can go to world community grid or folding@home?
