There's a half-way house ran by a group of AA people that borders my condo and every fucking morning I hear them SCREAMING at each other at what sounds like straight-up fighting volume. At any moment you'd expect for someone to pull out their nine and start shooting. Like they're trying to blow out everyone's fucking ear drums within a 3 block radius. I'm on the 4th floor and I hear every word of their conversation through dual-pane windows almost as if they're standing in my office... it's clear they're not trying not to be heard.
Is this a southern thing? Is it a socioeconomic thing? Is it an "I don't give a fuck about anyone except for me" thing?
I also have a seemingly magical ability to pick AA's out of a crowd with the volume thing. Anytime I'm in a crowd, and I hear a near fighting volume... I can turn my head to a group of AA's. Here's an exception... the other day I came across a Mexican woman who was extremely obese who was about 10x louder than anyone in the restaurant I was in... so it got me thinking this might not be a southern thing, but perhaps a matter of insecurity or poverty. There's a Mexican woman who lives behind me who lets her child scream at 200 decibels for 12 hours a day, windows fully open, and not a care in the world. This has gone on for 1 year and 3 months.
But I really have no idea. What I have noticed is that if I'm at a restaurant that's over $100 a plate... it seems everyone is pretty civilized and pleasant. I also know that when you live in a really expensive place, you don't experience these things either.
If I were ever in a group with someone that let loose like this... I'd want to punch them in the face.
What's your theory?

First the proof then the theory.
Proof :
Poor : Me and 2 friends were playing in a front yard when a couple, in a house across the street, comes outside fighting. The female fires 5 shots at the male and misses every time. The male then knocks her to the ground with a punch and drags her back into
the house by her neck. No one called the police.
Rich : If someone angry yells loud for more than 5 minutes then a neighbor is likely to call the cops and people growing up in that area learn
that being loud can cause them problems.
Theory :
When cops are NEVER called for domestic issues/street fights unless someone is
actually hit by a bullet; people know they can go on and on and on without getting arrested. People get used to seeing this stuff for years and it becomes normal to them.
Plus many alcoholics have personality problems that contributed to them being an
alcoholic and those problems got into them because they grew up in the house
with the couple yelling, fighting and shooting and the cops never were called.
So basically there are two levels at which neighborhoods call the cops.
Poor people tend to not call the cops until death is imminent and rich people tend
to call the cops a little too early without serious cause.
End.
There are a variety of reasons why poor people don't call the cops; but one of the
clearest is that being poor and going to jail can really mess up a household and
people don't want that to happen to them so they don't want to call on the neighbor
just to have the neighbor return the favor at the worst time.
And because people never call the cops and that's expected, you will be "starting shit with me" by calling
the cops, so now you fear revenge. It's a circle as you can see in my logic.
