In my country (Russia) the tax rate is as low as 6% if you are registered as a private entrepreneur. Also if you get caught for tax evasion, you will be fined but not imprisoned. Personally I don't think it's correct to involve the tax system into the discussion about freedom and democracy. IMHO.
