The internet has made it possible for the mentally ill, those with mental disorders and the chronically stupid to band together to legitimize their state (i.e. "my eyes are now open..." type crap to rationalize antisocial behaviors, together insisting that ancient aliens existed or whatever).
There is a fundamental law of beliefs and belief systems and that is that the more people that come to believe the same thing, the more right they become in their beliefs... and then the cycle of illness perpetuates itself as the beliefs also grow stronger. Furthermore, there is an intense and natural resistance to disproving those beliefs as they extend beyond a simple argument and tie into ones wider sense of self, ones worldview etc. etc.
You can't have a sane discussion with an insane person
You can't have a reasonable conversation with an unreasonable person
You can't have a rational debate with an irrational person.
I do feel there is great value however, in diminishing their ability to influence others.
