Diana Duke Speaks (Writes)!

*Diane* that is... wouldn't want to leave a typo uncorrected on GFY!!!

This is the law for which AHF is pushing. It basically mirrors LA's Measure B, but would be statewide for all of California.

Mr. South, I'm guessing some of her references are pointed at you.

Here's the Press Release:

AB 332: Discretion is the Better Part of Valor

FSC CEO Diane Duke writes:

It was Wednesday, the day after AB 332 was to be heard in the Assembly Arts & Entertainment (A&E) Committee. The bill had been pulled from the agenda by its sponsor, Assembly Member Hall, because it did not have the votes to make it out of Committee. This is an unprecedented move and is frowned upon by members of the Legislature. Essentially, this would be comparable to tipping over the board in a chess game if one were losing—bad form, bad etiquette.

The bill was assigned to both the Arts and Entertainment and the Labor committee by the Speaker of the Assembly, John Perez with the intention it would have to pass out of both committees to get a vote on the floor. As of this moment, it has not been scheduled for a hearing in either committee but, the way Sacramento works, that could change at any moment.

The fact that the bill did not have the votes to make it out of committee did not happen by accident. We have been working tirelessly lobbying A&E committee members and by having our folks in Sacramento and our mainstream alliances speak with committee members as well. I can honestly say that the lack of votes for the bill in Arts and Entertainment was directly related to those efforts.

We have not advertised our outreach, or tweeted or blogged about it, because we do not want AHF to know our strategy. FSC’s annual budget is approximately half a million while AHF’s is 200 million. In this David and Goliath scenario, we have to work smarter not bigger. FSC could put out countless press releases describing the work we do in Sacramento, but then AHF would use its considerable financial resources to bully those with whom we work and with whom we are speaking. We know that it is their pattern as they have harassed, picketed and filed lawsuit after lawsuit against anyone and everyone they see as a barrier to their anti-porn crusade.

Furthermore, AHF has publicly stated that it gets much of its information from the adult blogs. Those individuals who choose to promote themselves as “experts” on various subjects by pointing out theoretical vulnerabilities within the industry, or by putting companies, individuals or organizations down, are clearly focused on their own well-being and NOT that of the adult entertainment community. FSC has one horse in this race, the well-being of the adult entertainment community, its performers, producers, directors and production support professionals.

FSC could use its limited resources for self-promotion but we know that is not what our members expect. Instead, we will continue to fight AB 332, Measure B, 2257 and other challenges that come our way. Rest assured that, despite the spin of various self-promoting bloggers, FSC is representing your interests in Sacramento, DC and wherever necessary as we follow our mission: To lead protect and support the growth and development of the adult products and entertainment community.
