you should consider the use you're going to give to it, it's pretty overkill for small sites.
The good news is that if you're crafty and know how to edit the files, you can get something a less bulky. At the time I installed it for a client, I installed it as it came, but later they had someone else that "cleaned" the unused extensions and features.
If it was me, I'd use the default install, no extensions at all and go from there. Also, check
this and see if it's of use for you
