Lightning kills more people each year than serial killers. So serial killers can not possibly be a problem.
This kind of logic, or actually lack of is called an informal logical fallacy. In particular, Missing the point (irrelevant thesis, ignoratio elenchi, irrelevant conclusion, ignoring the issue, befogging the issue, diversion, red herring, etc.).
