Hang on! India is the world's 10th biggest economy. They've been a nuclear power for since 1974 when they tested their first bomb.
They might not be the wealthiest nation on Earth...but they've long been right up there with the leading countries in technology and medicine, etc.
Not a third world country by any stretch of the imagination. I read back on the history of India when I read your post...and I don't see where they were ever a third world country.
