Source/Evidence?

Firstly, a single instance of a scientist saying X or Y does not make it true. What we use to analyse instances of scientific claims is through a process of
peer review which leads to something known as
scientific consensus. If Richard Dawkins turned around tomorrow and stated that evolution was a lie in order to create research dollars, it would not be a scientific statement that would change public opinion. Science doesn't operate on a single person's view, it operates on a pool of knowledge that is tested, observed and recorded continuously.
Secondly, there isn't a single reputable source I can find that verifies this statement, nor is there any context for the statement that he made. However, if I take this
questionable anti-vaccination source, it claims that:
Quote:
At a workshop on polio vaccines sponsored by the Institute of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Samuel Katz of Duke University cited the estimated 8-10 annual U.S. cases of vaccine-associated paralytic polio (VAPP) in people who have taken the oral polio vaccine, and the [four year] absence of wild polio from the western hemisphere.

So if this source is correct (again, it isn't citing anything first-hand, and isn't supported anywhere that is neutral on the subject) it claims that there are 10 cases per year of Polio that are the result of vaccination.
This timeline which is/was maintained by the person who literally
wrote the book on Polio claims that from 1953 to 1957, the number of cases goes from 36,000 per year to 5,600, with the number reduced to 121 in 1964.
Reducing 36,000 down to 121 in the space of 11 years at the cost of 8-10 cases induced by the vaccination effort - medically and scientifically - is morally sound and justified. Vaccines are not perfect and no one claims they are. What vaccines do is reduce the overall incident rate of terrible, crippling conditions at the cost of potentially inducing unwanted side effects. Again, I have no understanding of what context these statements were made - if they were made at all - but even if they were true, a counter argument doesn't make sense to me.

This quote is again, unreferenced apart from anti-vax websites and without context. I will go one further and say that this quote is completely fabricated; unless there is incredible warping of context, it's quite clear to me that this isn't something he would have said. If you can find a reputable source that confirms this quote, as well as giving a date, time and location, I can respond to the claim made (again, he is a single scientist, science doesn't work on what a single person says).
I would like to ask you nicely to respond to points I have made in reaction to what you've said. I noticed that in your last response, you completely ignored what I said and started a new argument. I believe that I have adequately considered your claims and have countered them using evidence, logic and reason. I expect you to be professional in your response and to lend me the same level of professionalism and maturity that I have lent you. If you don't want to - that's fine, but hopefully someone else here who may be on the fence will look at what I've stated and reconsider their position on this particular subject.
Again, what you say is dangerous and results in the unnecessary deaths of a lot of vulnerable people; especially children who are only subjected to their parent's wishes and desires.
