I (mostly) agree. You have to remember that Photoshop comes from a time when desktop publishing meant print publishing, so a whole lot of its features are simply wasted for web work.
Remember the abortion that was ImageReady?
Still, for raster image manipulation it's hard to beat.
I was afraid this would eventually happen when Adobe bought Macromedia back in the day. Macromedia's programs were designed from the ground-up to work for the web. They were simple, effective. Photoshop unfortunately has its print legacy to carry around.
As for the Cloud subscription, I'd suggest instead of going by hearsay and getting your collective panties in a bunch, do some research
