smartphones, while growing, still represent less than 20% of total mobile traffic. Also, most people have some kind of traffic control plan and/or are in slower traffic plans, so if you serve them with 1Gb content when they visit your site, that will be the first and last time they ever visit it. Plus, any decent developer should include a way to see the site in desktop version if the user
CHOOSE to do so.
Think of this: there's a reason why the most important and innovative companies in the world have mobile versions for their sites: for starters, they're not willing to lose between 50 and 80% of their mobile traffic . Only those that are way behind in the game are those who ask why to have a mobile version (no offense, you know I like you, but sometimes adult industry is extremely frustrating with the delay it has in technology)
Anyway, since I know you're really smart, have good taste and know what to do and what not to do: if in doubt, always look at the most successful ones. Always. Without exceptions. There's a reason why they're successful, and being dumb isn't exactly one of those reasons. Of course, just my not so humble 2 rupees
