If anything, since her mother died of ovarian cancer and she has a high genetic risk, why didn't she get her ovaries removed? Maybe she wants to have more children, but she could have stored eggs and used a surrogate. Ovarian cancer is very difficult to detect, especially in the early stages. Opting for a mastectomy instead seems extreme, especially when frequent, specific screenings can catch this form of cancer at an early stage.
