even if there was gold on the moon it would simply cost too much to bring it back to earth, because you would need to set up a base and extraction facility and this is commercially simply not viable...

maybe a small drone could be made just for explorations sake...but then theres the paradox that we would have to wait 100-s of years for a few minutes to pass...then 1000-s of years for the information to actually come back to us...

its just a huge waste of money...
really simple away around that, and the research is all there

problem, i believe, is van allen belt.. lots of money going into how to protect computer systems etc
