Actually research suggest that it is only kava products from dubious suppliers who use the full plant including the stems and leafs that will cause liver damage. Extracts from the root or just the plain pulverized root is not known to cause any harmful effects to the liver. I also recommend only using the pure natural root if available and only extracts if it is from a very reputable company who will use only the root in their product.
