You're talking about the Soviet Union, not Vietnam. Pretty sure if we hadn't interfered in the latter there'd several million more Vietnamese alive today.
As for Vietnam/WWII analogies, how about this one. Germany invades France because it sees France being a threat, or obstacle, to German interests. That's how we roll too, isn't it?
Difference is France was a genuine threat/obstacle to Germany and its interests, unlike Vietnam, which was no threat to anyone except our good buddies in the Khmer Rouge.
