The Swedish welfare system isn't as loose as the US is familiar with. They have very high taxation in that region, but they get representation for their taxation.
The insurgence of middle eastern and African leaches going there specifically to abuse that system is what has thrown a wrench in things. If you want to know what the Swedish "welfare system" was like before those people showed up, imagine the US without its stereotypical welfare recipients. Then you are left with a system used by people only when they truly need it while they work hard to get back on their feet.
IMO immigrants to any nation should not qualify for any type of welfare whatsoever. If you are taking the huge leap of moving to another country then your financial ducks should be in a row or you should have life sustaining work lined up. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't be welcome into the country.
