You are confusing "direct and imminent threat" with the long term threat of the Soviet Union which was exactly why the US got involved.... as well as ignoring the welfare of the people involved. You can blame vietnamese deaths on the US all you want, but there was ALREADY a war happening. ALREADY 1,000,000+ refugees and people already being massacred all over the countryside. The Soviet Union took over and occupied eastern Europe - under the guise of "freeing the people and protecting them" and plunged them into nearly complete darkness. Expanding territory, influence and military advantage WHILE wanting to take over the world is everyones problem. They were attempting to gain influence when and where they could which included strengthening and empowering and supporting a most of the worlds worst actors that the time.

Anyway... argue for peace all you want apologize for the US all you want. Its irrelevant. People all over the world want war. People all over the world want power. People all over the world want to become king of the planet.

.... "you may not want war, but war wants you" - hence the need to be offensive about it and to plan for long term, so that those that benefit from it, have the luxury of whining and complaining and pointing fingers instead of being locked in a chinese re-education camp.
