LOL. I'm not sure why so many think escalation by one party will lead to de-escalation by the other. It doesn't. Escalation leads to more escalation. :-)

Two kids on the playground. One hits another. The other, assuming they are not a bitch, hits back. The first, hits again, harder. Round and round we go until at least one of the kids is on the ground with blood shooting out their nose.
