1. 3 years isn't 'forever'. Hell, I have family members I haven't seen in that time
2. He messaged you on Facebook therefore I think he is your 'friend'. If not delete him.
3. Shit happens to all different people from all different walks of life into all kinds of different shit. Lets hope one day you don't find out how it feels..
