I can understand using that method IF you A: have previously used a chainsaw to first cut the tree and B: Have a long enough rope that will keep tension on the tree to prevent it from going back and hitting the house.

But Dear Lord, go and rent a chain saw from the Home Depot for the $20 it will cost you for 4 hours. Pretty sure more than $20 damage was done to that car.
