Really though, you cant beat GA for features and options but I would prefer not to have big G know every single metric about my site.
Piwik is good in that is free in a sense of not charging base on # sites or # hits. It is a resource hog so a friend and I split a cheap dedicated server just to run piwik.
Modified the out of box piwik install according to:
