Everyone has their own opinion on SEO, so there is no one right answer.

As far as buying links go, you'll do more damage than good. You'll have better luck taking that $300 to a casino than ever making that work for SEO. I just read a good post earlier this week from a well known SEO guy saying "link buying is for suckers..." So take that as you will.

For me, I just setup a site less than a month ago and ranked well to date for semi-competitive terms, but now going the extra mile to get top 5.

The secret? There is none, it's well placed content, ease of site navigation and keeping the strategy of "beat user experience" when they come to your site versus any other and you will do fine.

Then start to write content for blogs, PR, and post elsewhere. Short cuts will get you nowhere fast
