We had a client that we would have loved to have done his job for today but we actually had to refuse him because his requirements were unrealistic.
He wanted a fully customized Groupon type site for a specific industry, developing, testing, designing and launching in 7 days.
Theres physically no way a custom program be tested properly in just 7 days and this type of program would take a minimum of 30 days to get to the stage where we could even start the site build out.
It seems when it comes to website design and development, people do have unrealistic expectations and further, they constantly think that *they* are your only client so we can just drop everything and pander to them.
No wonder people get scammed by design and programming companies all the time, anyone who is desperate enough will hire the first guy off Craigslist they find and send them ridiculous amounts of money for the promise they'll complete the work 'tomorrow'.
There's a guy local to us in Jacksonville who charges $99 for a website, we're loving him right now because every week for the past 3 months while he has been advertising on Craigslist, we've picked up a new client that has used his service and hated what he delivered them in less than 24 hours. I for one hope he keeps advertising for many years to come
