Everyone gets in contact with oral herpes (not the genital one). You usually get it as a child and the same virus may cause genital herpes if you have sex in the time it is active. As for the genital one, you can actually get it just from kissing, so do you ask them to get tested before any physical contact? That would be a bit crazy. There are people who have the virus but it has never been activated in them because of good immunity. I have never had a cold sore even though many girls I was with had oral herpes in them. Lol, when I was a teenager I even kissed my GF while she had that on her lip. It has never appeared on me.
