I've actually often wondered, if say an unkown Elvis, Elton, Lennon, Freddie Mercury, or perhaps a Roger Daltry or Mick Jagger were to walk on one of these shows like American Idol or the Voice etc and audition, as complete unknowns never before heard or heard of, would the judges have the smarts to award them a ticket to the next round or would they pass saying they're too this or too that?
The OP is basically correct, although there's obviously a lot of heavy editing going on there. Had that actually occured that way I have no doubt they (the judges) would have thought he was an impersonator or something, and judged him on that basis.
But if we could somehow rewind time and bring singers like that on stage as they were when they were 20, or when they were as yet unkown.... how would they do?
And he's right, today's music by and large sucks. Very little actual rock or decent hard rock at the Grammy's, today they're basically the hip-hop & pop & rap crap awards. May as well change the name to that and be done with it.
