For over 3000 years Egypt was ruled by a Pharaohic or royal dynasty. On 18 June 1953, Egypt was declared a republic.

It's not fair to impose American or western values on Egypt nor is it fair to impose those same values on the former USSR territories.

Europe has a long history of kingdoms, democracy and parliamentary governance. The US and Canada share the Western European and Mediterranean European heritage.

The military in Egypt has acted to salvage the republic: Colonel Nasar, Lieutenant Colonel Sadat and Air chief marshal Mubarack were all military officers.

That is Egyptian tradition.
